Ned Schwing stated in his reference e-book around the Model 1890 & Top-rated Winchester pistols and revolvers 1906 that Winchester began evidence marking them in 1908… I do not know if that may be correct, but will assume that it's. The “WP” evidence mark was applied after the barrel and receiver ended up mated, assembled and concluded. This is very obvious about the firearms created in the late teenagers via early 30s if the blue flaked (popped) off if the proof was struck on the receiver body.
